Text Box: The purpose of the Construction Trades/YouthBuild program is to provide economically disadvantaged youth with education and employment skills through opportunities for meaningful work in their communities by helping to meet the housing needs of homeless individuals and members of low-income families. The program is designed to provide on-site housing construction and rehabilitation work experience and off-site academic classes, job skills training, leadership development and supportive services for young adults, primarily high-school dropouts with ages ranging from 16 to 24. In addition to benefiting the youth participants, the program will also increase the supply of permanent, affordable housing for the homeless and low-income families.   A new and innovative approach of this project involves the combination of establishing construction skills while learning to become an entrepreneur at this new trade. The purpose of this approach is to produce graduates capable of becoming economically, self-sufficient by starting micro enterprises and small businesses in the home construction trade areas.   Funding for this project is provided by the Office of Community Service, the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, the Cannon Foundation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.   This Program Offers Educational Services Leadership Training   Who Is Eligible to Participate?
