Cultural Development

Juneteenth

River City CDC hosts an annual Juneteenth celebration to commemorate the oldest known celebration of the ending slavery in the United States.

In 2019, a ceremony was held in Sheep Harney Auditorium with Bishop Alvin Georges, Pastor of The Mount Peninsula in Newport News, VA, serving as the keynote speaker.  Alex Holt and Free Worship, as well as The Mount Elizabeth City KARAR Praise Dancers, provided entertainment to lift the spirits of every attendee.
